A workshop on Advancing Woody Biomass Options and Opportunities in Nova Scotia will be held from October 21-23, 2014 at Cape Breton University in Sydney. Watch for more information on the program and how to register in the coming weeks.
LOCAL FARMS OPEN TO VISITORS

Nova Scotians are invited to visit a farm Sunday, Sept. 21, as many across the province open their gates to visitors. As part of Open Farm Day, 51 Nova Scotia operations will allow the public to see demonstrations, go on guided tours, pick local produce, taste wine, and go on wagon rides. Most farms will have local products available to buy. (read more)
ATIKOKAN GENERATING STATION OPERATING ON BIOMASS

Ontario Power Generation’s (OPG) Atikokan Generating Station (GS) is now operating on biomass, making it the largest electrical power plant in North America fuelled by 100 percent biomass. “Atikokan GS is a unique addition to our clean energy portfolio as it provides dispatchable, renewable energy that can be used when the power system needs it,” said OPG’s president and CEO, Tom Mitchell. MARITIME BEEF TEST SOCIETY 2014-15 WINTER TEST

The Maritime Beef Testing Society is now accepting applications for the 2014-15 winter test. We are entering the third season using the GrowSafe feeding system to evaluate bull performance. We are very pleased to be working with Dr. Yuri Montanholi this year. He and his team of researchers and students from Dalhousie Faculty of Agriculture will be assisting with the test and using data in his research program. (read more)
