EU MOVES TO APPROVE U.S. GENETICALLY MODIFED CORN

Despite efforts by two-thirds of its 28 member states to block the move, the European Union took a large step toward approving a new genetically modified corn Tuesday. Monday, Fredericton, N.B.; Tuesday, Dieppe, N.B. ; Wednesday, Charlottetown, P.E.I.; Thursday, Truro, N.S.; Friday, Wolfville, N.S. Demand is increasing for customer access to year-round, fresh, local and organic vegetables and farmers are responding to this market opportunity by growing and storing crops for year-round markets, wholesale food box programs and winter Community Supported Agriculture boxes. CFIA PROBES LINK BETWEEN FEED AND DEADLY PIG VIRUS

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is exploring a possible link between pig feed and the deadly virus that has killed millions of piglets in the United States and spread to 11 farms in Ontario. Samples of pig food taken from some of the stricken farms in Southwestern Ontario tested positive for DNA of the virus on the weekend, prompting a recall from the manufacturer of the feed made with plasma from pig blood... UNIFOR CHOOSES RESOLUTE FOREST PRODUCTS TO LEAD NEGOTIATIONS

Unifor, Canada’s largest union in the forestry sector, kicked off preparations for the 2014 pulp and paper pattern bargaining in Eastern Canada at its Industry Bargaining Conference this week in Montreal. “This round of bargaining is about making progress for workers after the recession that battered the forestry and the entire manufacturing sector,” said Unifor National President Jerry Dias.  “The industry has returned to profitability – we'll be asking employers to acknowledge the sacrifices and contributions of workers during the crisis, including helping to take some companies out of CCAA protection.” (read more

SAP DISCOVERY COULD TURN SYRUP-MAKING UPSIDE DOWN
